Progress On My Natural Hair Journey
Hey guys, its another blog post on my natural hair journey that i promised to post, my hair has been covered for a while now because I've had protective styles on. I had faux locs on for about 5-6 weeks and then after that I had braids on for about 5 weeks too, Thats about a 11 weeks in all for both styles.
I made a post about protective styles and how they are good for your hair, if you haven't read that, then click here, there I mentioned the dos' and don'ts of protective styles.
Today I'll be showing you the progress I have made with my natural hair growth and how my puff is gradually getting fuller hehehe. Also, I will be sharing tips on how to keep your hair healthy, what I use for my own hair and what I think works best for my hair.
1. Know What Type Of Hair You Have
You need to know the type of hair you have because as I mentioned before it enables you know the kind of products that would work for your hair and it would also help you understand how your hair styles would turn out. For example, if you are watching a youtube video on How to do a wash and Go, and the babe in the video has 4b hair, the way my own wash and go would turn out would be totally different from hers because I have 4c Hair, therefore, when I'm on youtube I look for hairstyles for 4c Hair.

For example, if you are watching a youtube video on How to do a wash and Go, and the babe in the video has 4b hair, the way my own wash and go would turn out would be totally different from hers because I have 4c Hair, therefore, when I'm on youtube I look for hairstyles for 4c Hair.
wash and go
You can learn how to do the wash and go on YouTube....
2. Be Patient : Let Your Hair Grow
Do Not stress about your hair Growth, I used to, a lot, especially when I look at other peoples hair " I'm like why isn't my hair like that"... The fact is they have probably been growing theirs for about 3 years or more while I have had mine for Half the time. "hmm be patient Simi" your hair would grow , just don't stress, you would definitely see the difference as it grows gradually...
Also, you need to love every stage you're at with your hair, enjoy it, because natural hair, no matter how short it is, is beautiful.
3. Eat Healthy And Stay Hydrated Always
Drink a lot of water and eat Healthy, I can assure you I used to be one of those people who didn't really pay attention to what I eat, which is really bad, you need to be very cautious about what you eat, eat lots of fruits, it doesn't just help with your weight it also helps with your hair, your nails . everything...
Also, you need to drink lots and lots and lots of water, make water your best friend Trust me this helps make your hair stronger, healthier and grow faster.
4. Less Shampoo, More Conditioner.
Try not to shampoo your hair all the time, try co-washing, this is when you use your conditioner to wash your hair instead of the shampoo, I shampoo my hair once in 5 weeks, but I always co-wash my hair, Always.
Also, your conditioner is very important for your hair, when I apply conditioner to my hair, I usually leave in for about 45 minutes to An hour, this helps make your hair really soft...
You also need to be wary of using different products, stick to one product and know that these things take time to start working on your hair, you need to let them work.
Conditioner
This is the conditioner I use, you can find it in any supermarket, it is really good, I totally recommend and it is also affordable..... It makes your hair really soft, especially when you deep condition with it.
Shampoo
I use this shampoo, because it has Shea butter in it and shea butter makes your hair soft.
Coconut Oil
Oil in general is really good for your hair, Coconut oil is amazing for your hair. It helps with growth, it helps avoid and cure dandruff and it also helps to moisturize your hair. It does a lot of great stuff to your hair. so coconut oil is great.
Curl Activator
I personally like to use products with Shea butter in them, to make my hair extra soft and fluffy. this curl activator helps when you're styling your hair, you can use any type of curl activator, just find one and stick to it.
Eco Styler Gel
Oh this is my favorite product, I love this gel, it's so good for my hair, and especially because there's no alcohol in it. This is what I use for everything, I also use it as my edge control, cuz those silly edge controls never work for me, but this can last for a week when I apply once. It’s actually very affordable and you can find in any supermarket.
These are the major products I use, People use so many other things but I like to keep it simple, you can also use Shea butter as your curl activator, it’s really good.
Basically all you need to do is find what works for your hair and stick to it. Also just try to keep your hair healthy and clean, take care of your hair, cuz if you don’t, it won’t grow.
And for people who ask how iI started with my natural hair Journey let me tell you my story;
Well I started out transitioning, I just decided to go natural one morning, not because lots of people were doing it, I just thought my relaxed hair wasn't as healthy or as full as I wanted it to be. My relaxed hair was long, hence, I had no problem with length.
I didn't relax my hair for a while, after a year I did my big chop. Did I mention your hair doesn't grow fast when you're transitioning, I always tell people to go for the big chop. My hair growth was slow while transitioning, but after my big chop it grew really fast..
Anyways YouTube was or is my best friend, anything I wasn't sure about, tips on dos' and don'ts for for my hair I checked online and Google, I also follow a lot of natural hair pages on instagram, It is always good to follow other people's journey, you tend to learn a lot of new things.
Anyways, this is where I am at with my hair and I am Loving Every Minute of it.....
