Protective Styles #NaturalHairJourney
Faux Locs
Protective styles are basically styles you do that don't require you touching your hair every day, you can literally just wake up and go out the door for the day without having to style or touch your hair.
there are so many types of protective styles, like the Braids, Twists, Faux Locs, Dreads Etc, Protectives styles are not limited, you just have to be creative about what your doing to your hair.
Also the texture of your hair matters a lot, this enables you to know what and what goes on your hair and how each style would turn out because, different texture of hair different results. when i say texture of hair I mean like is your hair 4a, 4b, 4c (http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types ) read here for more information on that.
Twist On 4C Hair
To Learn how to do these styles if you cant do any just go on youtube and search for what you want to do, so many tutorials would pop up to answer your questions.
Protective styles also help with the growth of your hair, especially if you're Transitioning or already Natural. The Journey is not an easy one, all you just have to be is patient and do not obsess about the pace at which your hair is growing.
Twist
Also you have to know what is good for your hair, that is what to use and not to use, so do a lot of research on this. For me I follow a lot of natural hair pages on instagram, I kinda use them as a guide, You get to see alotta of womens' journey, what they use, how they style their hair, what they eat. You know it all starts from the inside, Growth that is. so what you eat determines how healthy your hair would be sometimes, that is when they say Avocado is good for the hair and what and what it does to the hair, they aren't necessarily saying you should put the Avocado on your hair, even though its something you can do, ( Just blend the Avocado up with some egg and coconut oil and you have the mother of all protein treatments) lol
Kinky Twist
Also when doing a protective style, do take note of your edges. Avoid anything that would put a strain on your edges to avoid loss of your edges. You should also know the strength of your edges and what it can take, if you want to go for braids or faux locs, just make sure you do brush in front to protect your edges.
Also for your protective styles, do not carry them for too long, more than 3 months, you can always take them off and put them back on, Even though 3 months is actually kind of long but the longest should be 3 months, while you have them on, try and clean them or even wash them if possible. for the braids and twists, you can wash them while they are still on, but for the faux locs, due to the fact thats its heavier than the usual braids, it's not advisable to wash but clean with some products ( Read Here )
My Favorite Protective style is the Crochet, especially the ones used with Marley Hair, they are hardly ever done in this side of town, those who do them do them on their own, cuz you won't find a salon to do crochet braids for you. My first try on crochet Braids that is in the picture below, I spent about 5 hours in front of the mirror doing my hair with the help of my darling best friend of course who helped with the back while I did the Front. The braids were so comfortable, I could style them any how I wanted and part them anyhow I wanted, They also looked so natural due to the curls from the weave. To find out how to install crochet braids just go on youtube, there are so many tutorials on how to install them
